Minors

The Department of Art offers minors in Two Dimensional Design, Three Dimensional Design, Digital Art and Design, Photography and is a partner in offering the minor in Innovative Media. Below are the criteria for each minor course of study.

2D Studio Art Minor

As well as allowing students to discover the joy of living a creative life, the 2D Studio Minor trains students to think and communicate visually. These skills serve students in a variety of careers and life-styles after graduation.

2-D Studio Art Minor (18 HRS)
9 hours required:

Art History Minor

The Art History minor provides a structured and broad program for students majoring in other disciplines but with a strong interest in the histories of visual culture. Students in the Art History minor program develop the ability to comprehend the social, historical, and aesthetic significance of the visual realm that is our present environment and the heritage of many cultures.

Digital Art and Design Minor

This minor prepares students to work with a variety of modern, creative, visual media. Graphic and media design skills taught within the minor will enhance your value as professional careers increasingly depend on media technology and visual communication.

Photography Minor

The minor in photography gives students technical and aesthetic skills to create effective visual images in both fine art and commercial settings.  Students are exposed to traditional and contemporary practices that will prepare them for careers in creative fields.

Comics Studies Minor

If you are a comics reader this minor will give you greater appreciation of the complexity and diversity of the comics medium.  If you are an aspiring comics creator you can use this minor to better understand and practice your craft.  If you are a visual narrative communicator (videographer, web designer, storyboard artist, etc.) you can learn techniques applicable to your particular art form.
You do not have to be an artist to minor in Comics Studies.  All students in the program will have an opportunity to Appreciate the diversity and potential of the comics art form; Understand comics as a unique medium of communication; Discover the governing principles of the comics art form; Apply knowledge of the medium to the creation of graphic narratives; Analyze the role of the comics medium in various cultures; and Evaluate graphic narratives.
