Studio Art

The Bachelor of Fine Arts Studio degree combines intensive and innovative studio art practice with an outstanding education in the liberal arts. Our highly motivated students are committed to pursuing professional careers in the arts. To empower these careers, the program offers instruction in eight areas of study:

  • Painting
  • Printmaking
  • Ceramics
  • Photography
  • Sculpture
  • Drawing
  • Digital art
  • Art history

The BFA Studio program includes 78 major credit hours along with 45 hours of the Liberal Arts Core. Students receive training in studio techniques and post-studio practice, an overview of historical and contemporary artists and movements, and an introduction to criticism.

The Art Department faculty includes seven full time professors and four adjunct professors, all of whom are highly trained and active professionals. The department has a very active Margin of Excellence Guest Lecture Program that regularly brings in nationally known artists and speakers. Our small classes provide a richly creative and informative environment for students, and our low professor-to-student ratio gives students the opportunity to receive individual instruction from professors who will mentor and empower them.

Our graduates work as studio artists, entrepreneurs and museum professionals. They have also gone on to Master of Fine Arts programs at schools including the Savannah College of Art and Design, Memphis College of Art, the University of Memphis, Louisiana Tech University, and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
