Audition Requirements:

Choral Music Education

    1. For the voice audition, prepare one memorized solo song in any language. An accompanist will be provided. *Please do not use a choral piece for this audition! Your choir director can help you select an appropriate solo piece.*
    2. A short interview will help the faculty learn about the auditionee and why they want to be a choral teacher/director.
    3. Aural, sight-singing, and keyboard skills will also be assessed. Auditionees will hear several short phrases played at the keyboard and be asked to sing them. A short sight-reading example will also help to assess sight-reading skills. A basic, elementary piano piece (choral accompaniment) will help determine level of piano skills.

 Vocal Performance

    1. For the voice audition, prepare one memorized solo song (foreign language preferred, but not required). An accompanist will be provided. Operatic literature is not expected.
    2. Aural and sight-singing skills will also be assessed. Auditionees will hear several short phrases played at the keyboard and be asked to sing them. A short sight-reading example will also help to assess sight-reading skills.

Bachelor of Arts/Music minor

    1. For the voice audition, prepare one memorized solo song in any language. An accompanist will be provided.
    2. A short interview will help the faculty learn about the auditionee and why they want to be music minor or pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree.
    3. Basic aural, sight-singing, and keyboard skills will also be assessed. Auditionees will hear several short phrases played at the keyboard and be asked to sing them. A short sight-reading example will also help to assess sight-reading skills. A basic, elementary piano piece (choral accompaniment) will help determine level of piano skills.

Guidelines for Applying for an Academic Scholarship

  1. If you are considering attending Henderson State University in the fall of 2018, you should complete an Application for Undergraduate Admission before February 1, 2018 in order to be eligible for Academic Scholarships. (December 1, 2017 is the Priority Deadline)
  2. Academic Scholarships range from $2,000 to $ 11,000 per year and are awarded to students based on GPA and ACT scores.
  3. There is not a separate application for Academic Scholarships. Students who complete the Application for Undergraduate Admission by February 1, 2018 are automatically considered for these scholarships.
  4. Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and it is to your advantage to submit your Application for Undergraduate Admission as soon as possible while scholarships are still available. Those who apply after the deadline may still be eligible for Academic Scholarships, provided that funds are still available.
