HSU Choirs

Audition and Scholarship Information

The Henderson State University Choirs present refined performances of highly artistic music that is relevant to 21st Century. We are committed to the personal and musical growth of each singer as well as the enrichment of both students and audience members. Choir members come from a variety of disciplines and majors across the university. There is a place for you in the HSU Choirs.

University Chorale

The University Chorale is a select group of about 32 singers. Members of the ensemble perform challenging a cappella and accompanied choral literature reflecting a variety of styles and genres. Each year the ensemble performs on-campus concerts, regional touring, and international travel once every four years. Membership is open to all students by audition, regardless of major. Auditions consist of a vocalizing, sight-reading, and a self-prepared choral selection. Auditions are held at the beginning of each fall semester. The University Chorale has a long-standing tradition of excellence in performance. (audition required, membership in Concert Choir required)

Concert Choir

The Concert Choir is a large ensemble open by audition to any student with singing experience, regardless of major. The ensemble has a long history of performing major choral works with orchestra on campus and with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. Concert Choir also performs annual seasonal concerts and sings a variety of a cappella and accompanied choral music. Members of the Concert Choir have toured throughout Europe and Asia, and have performed in Carnegie Hall. (audition required)

Opera Workshop

Opera Workshop allows students to study the art of theatrical singing. Each semester vocalists rehearse and perform repertoire from the world of opera and musical theater, and stage these works with the use of costumes and scenery. There are also frequent collaborations with the HSU Theatre Department.
